Ball Valve Part: Ball Support

The ball support is an internal component designed to provide additional stability and alignment for the ball inside a ball valve, especially in larger or trunnion-mounted valve designs. It helps maintain the ball’s position during operation, reducing wear and improving sealing performance.

Function of Ball Support

• Structural Stability
  Supports the ball at the bottom (and sometimes top), preventing excessive movement or displacement under high pressure or flow conditions.

• Enhanced Sealing
  By stabilizing the ball, it ensures consistent contact between the ball and seats, improving leak-tightness.

• Reduced Operating Torque
  Helps distribute forces evenly, decreasing the torque needed to operate the valve.

Design and Materials

• Usually fabricated from durable metals such as stainless steel or alloy steel to withstand mechanical stress and corrosion.

• Integrated into the valve body or attached near the ball’s trunnion to provide firm support.

Applications

• Common in large-diameter and high-pressure ball valves, particularly trunnion-mounted types.

• Used in oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, and other heavy industries where valve stability and reliability are critical.
